Brian Myers (PhD, CISSP, CCSK)
Brian brings a practical approach to cybersecurity, empowering companies to manage their security effectively. With ten years of leadership experience in information security and over twenty years on software development teams, he excels at translating between technology, security, and business domains—helping organizations understand their specific needs and implement controls that are both effective and reasonable for their situation.
Brian started as a software developer working for Borland International and then Netscape. Later he established the first application security team at WorkBoard, a hypergrowth Silicon Valley startup. As the HIPAA Security Officer at WebMD Health Services, he helped the company achieve and maintain a HITRUST certification. As a consultant he has helped companies with SOC 2, HIPAA, secure design, and secure development.
Speaking and Writing
Brian regularly shares insights on information security through talks and publications. His topics have included AI governance, ransomware, OWASP Top Ten vulnerabilities, and how to launch a security program. He has presented or served on panels for ISACA, OWASP, BSides, Western Oregon University, PNSQC, the Technology Association of Oregon, and the Oregon Cyber Resilience Summit. His writing has appeared in technical blogs that help professionals navigate the evolving cybersecurity landscape. Earlier in his career, he authored three of the first books on Windows programming.
